Hamburg, 27 February 2023 - Aves One AG, an owner of durable logistic
assets specialising in freight
wagons, has published its sustainability report for the year 2022. The
company has made significant
progress in implementing its ESG strategy. For instance, Aves One sets a
target to reduce its corporate
carbon footprint (CCF) by around two-thirds until 2030 compared to the
2019 baseline. As in the
previous year, Aves One offsets the CO2 equivalents by supporting a
climate protection project in the
Democratic Republic of Congo.
"We are proud of exceeding our own savings targets. This progress
illustrates the success of our
resource-saving and climate-friendly business development. Furthermore,
we are pleased to be able
to offset our emissions in a meaningful and effective way through the
climate protection project in
Virunga National Park ", says Tobias Aulich, Member of the Management
Board of Aves One AG.
The project in Congo's Virunga National Park harnesses the flows of the
Rutshuru River to generate
sustainable energy through a hydro-power plant. With a output of 13
megawatts, the Matebe plant
generates clean electricity for households and small businesses.
Thereby, around four million
inhabitants gain access to electricity. This gives people an alternative
to expensive energy sources such
as paraffin or charcoal. In addition, the hydro-power plant provides
electricity for street lighting in the
surrounding villages, thus ensuring more safety during the dark hours.
In order to meet its commitment to sustainable climate protection and
the 1.5-degree target of the
Paris Climate Agreement, Aves One decided to voluntarily participate in
the internationally renowned
ESG sustainability rating GRESB for the first time in 2022. With 80 out
of 100 in the GRESB Score 2022,
Aves One achieved a rating that is slightly above the average of all
infrastructure companies or funds
assessed.
Aves One contributes to the growth of rail freight transport as well as
to the protection of the
environment and society with its sustainable business model as an owner
of durable logistic assets
specialising in freight wagons. Aves One's implementation of various CO2
reduction measures is having
a clear impact. Aves One is committed to further reducing the Corporate
Carbon Footprint (CCF). In
doing so, the company focuses on reducing consumption values and
choosing more climate-friendly
sources for services, raw materials and energy. The Aves One freight
wagon fleet avoided more than
160,000 t CO2e (CO2 equivalents) already in 2022, thus making a
significant contribution to achieving
the United Nations 1.5-degree climate target.
